  5. Bitmoji

Flam: 3D Avatar Creator

Flam is your one-stop solution for the most hip and trendy cross-platform compatible 3D Avatars. You can create your avatar in multiple ways on this app by selecting a ready-made avatar, clicking or uploading a photo of yourself to get started, or creating your avatar right from scratch.

Once you choose your preferred method, Flam’s creative suite provides you with various customisation and personalisation options to play around with. You can control your facial features, clothing, complexion, hair, accessories and more!

Another great benefit of creating your Avatar on Flam is that they are cross-platform compatible. This means you can use them on any platform you need, and also, they are created and optimised in such a way that they are animation and rigging ready! Fun fact: Flam is not only an Avatar Creator App. You can create 3D content on the Flam App!

So what that means is you can create your 3D Avatar in minutes and animate it with a single click! This is easy and perfect for those just getting into 3D content creation. You can even use the 3D content you create with your avatars on social media platforms like Instagram to create stunning reels!

Instagram by Meta

If you’re not aware of Instagram’s new avatar feature, yes, you can create Avatars on Instagram as well. Let’s take a brief moment to understand how you can create avatars on Instagram. To get started, click on the app’s Profile section and tap on ‘Edit Profile’. Under your Display Picture (DP), you will see the option that says ‘Edit Picture or Avatar’. Click on the second tab that says ‘Create Avatar’

The avatar creation starts with the skin tone selection screen. Once you’ve selected your skin tone, you can personalise and customise your avatar. Some options allow you to customise hairstyle and colour, outfits, body types, face shapes, and fashion accessories. Take some time and create your personalised avatar to get the desired results.

Once you’re done with the avatar creation, you may think, “What is the use of this Avatar?”. The options here are limited as you can use this only as stickers in messages and reels. You don’t get the cross-platform compatibility and neither the option to animate or rig them as you can in Flam to create content.

Adobe Express

If you’re looking for an app or web app that can help you create some graphics with the avatars, you can try Adobe Express. Personally, I am not a massive fan because creating your avatar it’s more like working with PNG resources. You can select those resources and place them on a face type. If you’ve worked on Adobe Photoshop before, you’ll soon notice that it’s easier to do this on Adobe Photoshop rather than on Adobe Express.

It is important to note that when discussing Avatars in Adobe Express, you only get to work with 2D cartoonish avatars. You have no option of creating a hyper-realistic avatar like you can on Flam and animate them. The biggest bummer here is you need to have a paid Adobe CC subscription to use this tool.

Canva

Similar to Adobe Express, Canva has limited options and templates for Avatar creation. Surprisingly, the aesthetics of these templates were more pleasant to the eye than the templates on Adobe Express. But on the other hand, when you look at the use cases of 2D Avatars and simple graphics, Adobe Express provides a broader range of customisation options.

Due to its limitations, Canva Avatars can only be used to make some excellent Instagram posts and even ads in some scenarios.

Bitmoji

Most of us have already used Bitmoji to make customised emojis. It’s simple and fun. As of late, they have started providing the Avatar SDK to developers so that they can use the platform and make functioning Avatars for use cases like video games.

But, if you’re not a developer., you can only use these as stickers in your chats. Similar to Instagram, it can be used only in the Meta Apps and only as stickers in chats or reels.

You may have noticed: I’ve mentioned Flam a lot in this article. Yes, I have done so because it is a no-brainer when it comes to avatar creation. Also, no other app provides you with functions like creating a 3D experience, converting it into 2D in real-time, and making it ready to be shared on social media. Flam has made 3D content creation and experience accessible for everyone and creating 3D content or avatar is no longer a ten-hour tedious task like it used to be.
